Overview

Atlas Iron has an extensive portfolio of projects covering an area of over 18,000km², primarily in the northeast Pilbara, the Newman area and the Midwest of Western Australia. These include the established Pardoo and Wodgina Operations near Port Hedland, advanced projects at Abydos and Mt Webber, greenfields projects in the Newman area and mining leases in the Midwest as well as a large number of other prospects around WA. The Company continues to be one of the most aggressive explorers in the state, a strategy which has led to rapid growth in the company's resource inventory through a series of outstanding exploration successes.

The Company's main focus is the discovery and development of Direct Shipping Ore (DSO) deposits in strategic locations adjacent to existing infrastructure. The Pardoo Operation commenced mining in October 2008, with the first export shipment loaded at FMG's Anderson Point facility only two months later. Mining commenced at Wodgina in 2010, and by October of that year the Company's DSO exports had grown to a rate of 6 million tonnes per annum. Low-capex operations like Pardoo and Wodgina are the key to Atlas's expansion plans, and Abydos and Mt Webber will be instrumental in expanding the production base to 12 million tonnes by 2012.

Atlas' Newman Projects range from grass-roots level to advanced exploration stage. The acquisition of Warwick Resources in late 2009 and Girala Resources in early 2011 marked a step change in the Company's growth ambitions as it implements long-term exploration plans which are intended to deliver world-class DSO orebodies into the resource profile over the next three to five years.

In addition to DSO the Company has two world-class magnetite projects in Balla Balla and Ridley. Balla Balla is a polymetallic orebody containing magnetite, titanium and vanadium, hosted within a gabbro. The Balla Balla resource contains 456Mt at 45% Fe, 0.66% V2O5 and 0.14% TiO2. At the Ridley Magnetite Project, Atlas has a 2 Billion tonne magnetite resource which includes a 970 million tonnes reserve. Pre-feasibility studies have indicated Ridley has the potential to produce 15 million tonnes of high-grade magnetite concentrate per annum for over 30 years. Last but not least, the smaller Yerecoin magnetite project.
